No Danger Of Tsunami On West Coast After 7.1 Japan Quake
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- Officials say there is no danger of a tsunami that could damage Hawaii or the west coast of the United States after a strong earthquake shook Japan.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says that it will not issue a tsunami watch or advisory for California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska or Hawaii on Saturday night because the earthquake was not sufficient given its magnitude, location and the historical record of tsunamis in the Pacific.
The magnitude-7.1 earthquake hit Japan at 9:57 local time and was centered off the coast of the main island of Honshu.
