Newark Homeowner Reports Suspicious Woman Posing As PG&E Worker
NEWARK (CBS SF) -- A Newark resident reported a suspicious person posing as a PG&E employee knocked on her door Thursday, according to police.
A resident on Marguerite Drive reported that around 3:30 p.m. a woman knocked on her door, claiming to be a PG&E employee, according to Newark police.
The person, who had a PG&E logo card hanging from a lanyard but no uniform or company vehicle, said she was taking measurements for an upcoming gas line project and asked for access to the back yard, the resident said.
The resident accompanied the woman to the back yard but found the behavior suspicious since she was aware of recent burglary activity.
PG&E was unable to confirm that the person was a legitimate employee, police said.
Anyone who is suspicious of someone claiming to be a PG&E employee can call the PG&E customer service line at (800) PGE-5000 to verify an appointment or confirm that PG&E is working in the area, police said.
Residents are asked to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to police.
