Newark Deaths Ruled a Double Homicide
Newark police are classifying the deaths of two men whose bodies were found in an apartment as a double homicide.
Police released new details about the deaths of Ignacio Tenerio Ortiz, 37, and Martin Camarillo-Guevara, 36, on Wednesday. The men's bodies were discovered on the morning of Aug. 10 by a friend of Ortiz's.
According to police, Camarillo-Guevara went to Ortiz's apartment with "ill will" and slashed and stabbed him during a tussle. It's not clear exactly when the attack occurred.
Police say Ortiz at some point during the fight grabbed a gun and fatally shot Camarillo-Guevara in self-defense.
Police have not revealed what may have prompted the encounter. But they say the two men knew each other.
