New Year Brings Changes For Caltrain, VTA Riders
SAN JOSE (KCBS) - Taking Caltrain will cost more starting January 1st. That's the most notable of the service changes scheduled for Bay Area transit agencies in the new year.
Beginning on Saturday, it will cost an extra 25 cents more a zone to ride Caltrain. That adds up to 75 cents if you're going from San Jose to San Francisco, which is what passenger Lydia was doing Tuesday.
"I still think it's better than driving into the city, so I gladly pay it," she said. "I would have to drive all the way into San Francisco and park, so it's still worth it to me."

Four midday trains are also being eliminated.
"Northbound trains 237 and 257 and southbound trains 236 and 256 will be eliminated and this will save the agency approximately $160,000," said Caltrain spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew.
On the flip side, she said, they are adding weekend baby bullet service starting on Saturday.
"Each train will make seven stops between the terminals in San Francisco and San Jose, with stops in Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Redwood City, Hillsdale, San Mateo and Millbrae," Bartholomew said.
The Valley Transportation Agency is also making changes to most bus routes effective January 10.
