New West Dublin-Pleasanton BART Station Opens
DUBLIN (KCBS)- BART Trains started rolling Saturday morning for the first time through the newest station in West Dublin-Pleasanton.
It's the first station to be built in the middle of an existing line and Kevin Morgan was among the first passengers.
"I like it. It's a nice new station. I've seen it under construction for quite some time and it's closer to where my parents live, so it makes it a lot easier for me to go see them," said Morgan.
KCBS' Anna Duckworth Reports:
With two stations now in Dublin, other BART riders wish the money had been spent on extending the line further east for Central Valley commuters who rely on BART.
"They should have one in Livermore, I think. Then, Valley people could just stop in Livermore to ride over the Altamont Pass and it'd be easier to drive into Dublin," said one rider who opposed the station.
BART spokesman Linton Johnson said an extension is much costlier than building on an existing line and the new station near the 580-680 interchange is strategically located.
"Private developers help pay for the station and so the financing finally came together where it didn't cost BART much, and it really adds economic development to both sides of the freeway," said Johnson.
At $106 million the new station was $20 million over budget and a year late.
