New 49ers' Santa Clara Stadium In Running To Host 2017 NCAA Football Title Game

SANTA CLARA (CBS Sports/AP) - The new home of the San Francisco 49ers, Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, is among six sites vying to host the 2017 College Football Playoff championship game.

After selecting AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas as the host of the inaugural playoff title game in January 2015, organizers for the College Football Playoff said Monday they had received four bids to host the 2016 national championship game and six to host the 2017 game.

Groups from Jacksonville, Fla. (EverBank Field), and Tampa, Fla. (Raymond James Stadium), submitted bids for both games; Tampa had also been a finalist to host the 2015 championship game.

The other groups in competition with Levi's Stadium for the Jan. 9, 2017, game are: Minneapolis, Minnesota (Vikings Stadium); San Antonio, Texas (Alamodome); and South Florida (Sun Life Stadium).

The other groups bidding for the Jan. 11, 2016, game are: Arizona (University of Phoenix Stadium) and New Orleans (Superdome).

Executive Director Bill Hancock said in a statement that the College Football Playoff's decisions on the 2016 and 2017 games are "are expected to be announced later this year."
