New San Francisco Mayor To Participate In 'Question Time'
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)- San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee says he has no problem with 'question time' at the Board of Supervisors. That's a drastic change from former Mayor Gavin Newsom, who was insulted by the idea of monthly appearances by the mayor, which were mandated by voters last November. Newsom viewed question time as petty politics conceived by then supervisor Chris Daly to attack him.
KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:
San Francisco's new mayor however, couldn't feel more differently about question time.
"I have no problem doing that," said Lee. "David Chiu and I have already discussed setting up time to go over the ground rules. What I am hoping for, and I will instill this with him, is that it not just be what we call 'question time.'"
Instead he says the time should be used for open discussion that sheds light on how policy is made, and problems solved. The idea comes from question time in British parliament.
