New Report of Sexual Incident At Oakland Elementary School
OAKLAND (KCBS) - Oakland Unified School District officials have launched an investigation into another case of indecent behavior at an elementary school.
Three students between the ages of 8 and 10 were said to be involved in what was described as simulated sexual behavior in a campus bathroom at Hillcrest Elementary a week ago.
"No, that's not actual sex acts but a simulation thereof," emphasized school district spokesman Troy Flint. "The students appeared to have been in partial states of undress."
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
"I can't get into any more details, given the fact that they are minors and that the investigation is ongoing," he added.
According to Flint, school officials did not suspect that any of the participants were coerced or assaulted in any way.
"We have counselors who come to the school and are providing support. The administration has met with the parents of the students who were involved. We'll continue to offer support in the form of counseling if needed and perhaps there will be some programming at the school to reinforce what is appropriate behavior."
Earlier this year, the school district launched an investigation into a case of sexual contact at another Oakland elementary school. Specifically, two second-graders were reported to have engaged in oral sex at Markham Elementary School.
"Situations like this are difficult for all involved, most importantly the students," acknowledged Flint. "So you have to try to handle them firmly enough to prevent recurrence but also delicately enough to respect the sensibilities and sensitivities of the families and the kids involved. That's the line we're attempting to walk right now."
