New Freeway Interchange Opens In Marin
MARIN (KCBS) - Caltrans has completed years of work on the Interstate 580 - Highway 101 interchange in Marin, making it easier to get to and from the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.
But this is just one of several ongoing roadway projects for the agency.
Major work is being done on freeways from Oakland to the Santa Cruz Mountains. It includes work on the 880-92 interchange, which is due for completion next year, and repaving of the Nimitz Freeway.
KCBS' Bob Melrose Reports:
"It is pounded by trucks and there's no question that the repaving project, when ultimately completed, is going to make things much better for hundreds of thousands of motorists," said John Goodwin with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
The Nimitz is the main connector from the Port of Oakland to the Central Valley.
All of the roadway projects are being paid for by a tax measure that was approved by voters in the late 1980s.
