New Bay Bridge Closure Planned For February
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- Westbound lanes of the Bay Bridge will be closed during the Presidents Day weekend in February, according to the California Department of Transportation.
Caltrans said the two- to three-day closure staring Feb. 18 is necessary to speed construction of the new eastern span. Presidents Day is Monday, Feb. 20.
Spokesman Bart Ney said the hours haven't been set, and he notes rain could postpone the closure or lengthen it.
KCBS' Rebecca Corral Reports:
Caltrans needs to close the westbound lanes of the bridge to allow construction crews to reconfigure the roadway and re-stripe lanes.
The agency is discussing alternative travel plans with BART and ferry services.
