New Area Code Coming To Santa Clara County
SAN JOSE (CBS/AP) - Silicon Valley is running out of telephone numbers.
The proliferation of cell phones and other devices means Santa Clara County is getting a second area code, 669, that will be joining 408.
Customers will see the 669 area code by the end of the year.
KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
The California Public Utilities Commission will hold public hearings March 16-18 in San Jose, Los Gatos and Morgan Hill to explain the switch.
The decision hasn't been made on whether the new area code will be an overlay, which allows current customers to keep their current area code, or split the current 408 area code.
Either way, telephone users will be dialing 10-digit numbers to make local calls.
