#NERDPOWER On Verge Of Making A's Sogard 'Face Of Major League Baseball'
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - A lack of name recognition hasn't stopped the Oakland A's from claiming the last two American League West titles and, if their fans have anything to say about it, it won't stop spectacle-sporting infielder Eric Sogard from becoming the face of Major League Baseball.
Over the past few days some of the biggest names in the league have faced off in head-to-head matches on Twitter to see who will be the ultimate survivor of the #FaceofMLB contest. Among the stars vying for fan votes were Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, Detroit MVP Miguel Cabrera and Yankees star Derek Jeter. All of them have fallen away, leaving just Sogard and New York Mets third baseman David Wright in a dead heat for the title, with just hours remaining.
Sogard's campaign - which has earned the #NERDPOWER label on Twitter thanks to his glasses, beard and diminutive physique - has taken out big name stars like Troy Tulowitzki of the Rockies and Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista. But his most surprising win was a little more personal for fans on both sides of the bay, he bounced Giants MVP Buster Posey by a clear margin in the quarterfinal round.
Here's a look at the full bracket with instructions on how you can help put Sogard over the top.
