Narsai David Wine Review: Mayacama Vineyards
(KCBS) - KCBS Food and Wine Editor Narsai David reviews a 2008 Sauvignon Blanc and 2008 Chardonnay from Napa Valley.
2008 Sauvignon Blanc
Very pale golden color - complex aromas of herbs and melons lead to a serious food wine on the palate. Amazing that a Sauvignon Blanc from 2008 is just now being released. Mayacamas has such a commitment to not selling wines before they are ready. A perfect balance of flavors make this a really desirable wine now. We drank it with a piece of just caught rock fish. It would have also worked with a rich lobster dish. The bottle aging develops a complexity that is so appealing. This is not one of those vegetative, herbal "bombs" on the palate. Delicious. $25.00
2008 Chardonnay
This Chardonnay and also the Sauvignon Blanc are dry farmed in the Mayacamas mountains in the Napa Valley. The concentration of fruit flavors is marvelous. This Chardonnay has fine acid balance on the palate. It is not a "buttery" wine. A splendid example of what can be done to show off the Chardonnay character of these grapes. Fine price at $30.00.
