Napa Wine Auction Yields $7.3 Million For Charity

ST. HELENA (CBS / AP) ― Unseasonably wet weather did not keep Napa Valley winemakers and their patrons from pouring another $7.3 million into local charities during one of the nation's biggest single charity events.

The money raised during the four-day charity wine auction known as Auction Napa Valley fell short of the $10 million taken in during previous years. But it was enough to put the total proceeds from the 31-year-old event at over $100 million by the time the bidding ended Sunday.

The lot that won the highest bid was a Napa trip for two couples that includes a dinner prepared by chef Michael Chiarello and wine from Chiarello and Staglin Family Vineyard. Two bidders paid $300,000 each for the package.

Because of rain, the auction had to be moved into tents.
