Napa Man Shot, Killed By Police Identified
NAPA (AP) -- The Napa County Coroner has officially named the man who police shot and killed outside his home.
He was identified Tuesday as 60-year-old Richard Poccia, a psychiatric nurse who worked at several hospitals throughout the Bay Area.
Police said the Poccia's wife had called for assistance Sunday afternoon because Poccia had become despondent.
Napa police Commander Steve Potter said one officer shot Poccia and another used a stun gun during a confrontation outside his home.
The Napa Valley Register newspaper reported that Poccia had been on disability for post-traumatic stress from working several years in psychiatric hospitals.
Witnesses said Poccia appeared to have his hands up and they heard only one shot fired.
Police said the shooting remained under investigation as four officers were placed on administrative leave.
