Napa Man Confronts, Shoots At Suspect Who Broke Into His Work Truck
NAPA (CBS SF) – A man who spotted a thief breaking into his work vehicle in Napa confronted the suspect and fired shots as he sped away in a car later involved in a brief police pursuit and crash, according to authorities.
Napa police told KPIX 5 they received a call at 11:38 a.m. regarding the theft victim who was watching a suspect break into their personal work vehicle in front of their home on the 2500 block of Wimbledon Street. The victim retrieved a firearm, went outside and confronted the suspect inside the work truck.
The victim took the suspect out of the truck at gunpoint and brought him down to the street. At that moment, a silver Porsche Cayenne drove up and sped towards the victim and suspect.
The suspect fled, getting into the Porsche before it sped away. As the car drove away, the victim fired several rounds into the back of it.
Napa police put out an all-points bulletin on the vehicle, which was spotted roughly 10 minutes later speeding down Hwy 29 with no rear tire by American Canyon police officers.
Those officers initiated a pursuit that ended shortly thereafter with the suspects hitting at least two cars before crashing the vehicle near Hwy 37. At least one person injured in the crash.
American Canyon police took the suspects into custody and are working with Napa police on the case. Investigators say one of the suspects is wanted in Marin County for a different crime.
There was no word on whether there might be legal repercussions for the victim after shooting his firearm at the suspects.
