Napa Indoor Marijuana Grow Raided; 2 Arrested
NAPA (CBS SF) - After a month-long investigation, Napa Special Investigations Bureau agents found an illegal indoor marijuana growing operation in unincorporated Napa on Soda Canyon Road last Thursday, bureau officials said.
Agents served a search warrant on a home in the 2100 block of Soda Canyon Road, where they found a grow house that appeared to be using California Compassionate Use Act laws to protect their for-profit operation, which is not the purpose of those laws, officials said.
About 70 plants and 14 pounds of processed marijuana were seized, officials said. Evidence of large-scale cultivation and sales were also allegedly found and collected.
Ryan Maeda, 29, was found at the growing location, taken into custody and booked on suspicion of cultivation and sales of marijuana, according to officials.
Authorities said evidence at the scene identified Mark Hammond, 40, as a principal in the operation. Agents contacted him at his home in the 3200 block of Vichy Avenue in unincorporated Napa last Thursday. There they found and seized what officials said was about 10 pounds of processed marijuana and about $13,000 in cash.
Hammond was also taken into custody and booked into county jail on suspicion of cultivation and sales of marijuana.
