Napa County Wildfire Contained After Destroying Home; Evacuees Return
NAPA (CBS SF) - A wildfire in unincorporated Napa County northeast of Napa has been fully contained and was expected to be completely out by 8 a.m. Thursday, Napa County Fire Marshal Pete Munoa said Wednesday afternoon.
The blaze burned about 65 acres in the area of Soda Canyon Road and Loma Vista Drive, west of the Silverado Country Club and Resort, Munoa said. Cal Fire initially estimated that 90 acres had burned but adjusted that estimate Wednesday.
Residents have returned to the 24 homes that were evacuated after the fire started around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday.
One home on Loma Vista Drive was destroyed, and several outbuildings also burned, including a four-car garage, some chicken coops and a shed, according to Cal Fire.
It's believed the fire started when power lines arced and fell in high winds Tuesday night, Munoa said. The exact location of the fire's origin is still under investigation.
Munoa said 160 firefighters responded to the fire. The area that burned consists of vineyards and natural vegetation.
No injuries were reported.
Soda Canyon Road was open and traffic was being controlled along Loma Vista Road, Munoa said.
