Nanny Pistol-Whipped In Orinda Home By Burglary Suspect
ORINDA (CBS SF) -- Police in the East Bay are searching for a burglar who pistol whipped a babysitter at an Orinda home before stealing an SUV from the home's garage.
The nanny was sweeping outside the home when a man approached her, and asked a question. She told him she didn't speak any English, and the man left.
But, minutes later once the nanny was inside, Orinda police say the man returned with a gun, and broke into the home.
"Kicked the door in, breaking it off the frame, and entered the house, presenting a pistol," Orinda Police Chief Mark Nagel said.
The suspect wanted money, but the nanny told him the family doesn't carry cash.
"That's when he hit her in the back of the head with the back of his gun," next door neighbor Karen Yim said.
Police say the suspect dragged the nanny from room to room, grabbing valuables.
The suspect then took off with the family's Porsche SUV before the nanny was able to run next door to David Funk's house.
"There was a bit of blood on her hand, and she was motioning to the back of her neck, where I saw that there was a contusion there," Funk said.
The nanny was hospitalized, and police are examining surveillance footage of the incident.
