Vallejo Police Kill Armed Naked Man, Another Arrested In Bizarre, Fiery Rampage
VALLEJO (CBS SF) -- A naked man was shot and killed by police in Vallejo early Sunday and another naked man arrested after a bizarre, drug-fueled disturbance that also included a house fire and the decapitation of three birds, according to police.
Police first got reports of someone breaking windows on the 2500 block of Alameda Street at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they found two men in their late 20s, naked, and who appeared to be hallucinating, according to police.
UPDATE: Vallejo Men In Naked, Drug-Fueled Rampage Identified
Police said the two had broken windows in both their house and of cars in front of the home and had set their house on fire.
Neighbors could barely believe what they were seeing. "It's like a nightmare," said neighbor Marvin Clouse. "It's like your next door neighbor suddenly turns into a crazy person."
When officers confronted one of the naked men inside the home, the second naked man appeared from the back of the house with a rifle and pressed the barrel of the rifle against an officer's stomach. Another officer immediately shot the man. The 29-year-old man later died at the hospital.
The other man, a 28-year-old, was also taken to the hospital for observation and later booked into jail.
Police believe that either one or both of the men was under the influence of some sort of controlled substance. Investigators also said the rifle that was pointed at officers was loaded.
After the shooting, police searched around the home with guns drawn, not knowing if anyone else might be lurking around.
"They located a blood trail leading to the back of the home, where three animals were found to have been decapitated," said Vallejo Police Lt. Sydney DeJesus. "It appears there was some sort of ritualistic act that was taking place."
The street was shut down for most of the day, and nearby homes were briefly evacuated.
"I was freaked out, I thought potentially the fire could spread onto our house," said neighbor Tracy Roeber.
"We saw cops, maybe about a dozen cops with guns searching the properties going up our street," said neighbor Steve Udom.
Police were waiting for toxicology reports to determine what drugs the men may have been on.
The officers involved in the shooting were placed on standard administrative leave while the case is investigated by police and the Solano County District Attorney's Office.
