Muse Nominated For Best Rock Song And Best Rock Album
When Muse's Matt Bellamy said he'd written the best song of his life, he wasn't kidding. The British band's frontman knew he'd nailed it. But would the fans or critics feel the same way? After last night's GRAMMY Awards nomination ceremony, the answer is a resounding yes.
“I wrote [Best Rock Song nominee "Madness"] having a fight with my girlfriend,” confesses frontman Matt Bellamy in an interview with KROQ/Los Angeles. “Nothing particularly over the top but just having one of those moments where she leaves you for the day to think about it. I rarely write songs that catharticly. All I had was a drum machine and a synthesizer so I just put this very minimal thing together."
“I wasn’t quite sure it would work with the band but when we started the album I showed it to Dom and Chris and they loved it," he continued. "They sort of took it to another level by adding these extra parts at the end and it became a much bigger song.”
“It’s a real surprise song for this album. It’s probably my favorite song that I’ve ever written.”
As if the nomination isn't enough, it's trumped by another. The 2nd's Law is vying for Best Rock Album against The Black Keys' El Camino, Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto, Bruce Springsteen's Wrecking Ball and Jack White's Blunderbuss. If Muse take home the win, the band will have to slide over their 2011 GRAMMY for Best Rock Album for The Resistance to make room for the new hardware.
The threesome from Devon will hit the U.S. for an 8-stop tour beginning January 21st in San Diego, CA.
The 2013 Grammy Awards will be doled out at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 10, 2013. Tune in to the 55th Annual Grammy Awards telecast, which airs on CBS at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
