Murder Suspect Arrested After 45 Minute East Bay Police Chase
An armed murder suspect led police on a chase down East Bay highways for nearly an hour Wednesday evening before being apprehended in a Bay Point neighborhood.
The suspect gave himself up after an hour-long stand off with him sitting in his car holding a gun to his head and talking to police on his cell phone.
Contra Costa sheriff spokesman Jimmie Lee says it all started at around 3:30 in the afternoon when deputies who were investigating a report of a burglary in Bay Point discovered a body.
A short time later, they found the suspect driving the victim's yellow SUV on Highway Four in Concord.
"One of our deputies called in the vehicle and shortly thereafter the pursuit began," said Lee. "It went from Concord to Pittsburg, back to Concord, back to Pittsburg, then to Bay Point, and eventually he ended up where the whole thing began."
At some point, in Concord, there was an exchange of gunfire.
After the standoff, police took 30-year-old Prudencio Rubio into custody. They say he was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
Rubio is a suspect in the homicide discovered in Bay Point Wednesday afternoon.
No other details on the murder have been released.
Authorities continue to investigate.
