5 Dead In Santa Monica Shooting Spree, Including Gunman
SANTA MONICA (CBS/AP) -- Police say a gunman who killed four people in Santa Monica before officers shot him dead acted alone, and investigators have released a man who had been detained as a "person of interest."
Sgt. Richard Lewis, a Santa Monica police spokesman, said at a news conference Friday night that the man was questioned and released, and he is not a suspect.
Police believe the killings Friday began as a domestic violence incident.
Officials say the gunman began the rampage by killing his father and brother. They were found in a burning house about a mile from the Santa Monica College campus where the gunman was killed.
Police say the gunman went on to kill two more people and injured several others before officers fatally shot him in the college library.
Police said earlier that seven people were killed, including the gunman. But they corrected that to a total of five people late Friday.
