I-80 Reopens After Mudslide Near California-Nevada Border
NEVADA COUNTY, CA (CBS SF) – A mudslide triggered by summertime rainstorms late Thursday afternoon closed westbound Interstate 80 about four miles west of the California-Nevada border, according to the California Department of Transportation.
Six to eight inches of mud was covering the westbound lanes of the roadway near Farad Road at the stateline.
One eastbound lane of I-80 was closed by Caltrans crews to allow westbound traffic to turn around.
The roadway was not cleared until around 10:30 p.m., according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.
The National Weather Service had issued flash flood warnings for several Sierra and western Nevada counties on Thursday afternoon.
