'Mrs. Doubtfire' Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested In Santa Cruz Heist
SANTA CRUZ (CBS SF) -- A man who police say dressed up as a woman during a Santa Cruz bank robbery and dubbed the 'Mrs. Doubtfire Robber' was arrested Tuesday following his arrest the previous day on separate charges.
32-year-old Brandon Calantoc of Sand City was detained by Carmel Police on Monday in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries in Carmel, according to Santa Cruz Police.
Calantoc was found with stolen mail and credit cards, along with narcotics and drug paraphernalia, police said.
A search of his vehicle also found evidence connecting him to the April 3 Santa Cruz bank robbery, including a purse and locket matching those seen in bank surveillance photos, according to police.
Calantoc, who was booked in the Monterey County Jail Monday on the stolen items and drug charges, was then taken into custody by Santa Cruz police detectives as he was being released Tuesday on his own recognizance.
He was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail for robbery, along with an enhancement of wearing a disguise during the robbery, and committing a felony while out on bail. He had been out on bail from Monterey County on separate burglary, stolen property and conspiracy charges.
Calantoc was also charged with the April 3rd attempted robbery of another bank where he allegedly appeared to be casing the bank also while dressed as a female.
Police called the suspect 'Mrs Doubtfire' robber because he dressed like the character played by the late actor Robin Williams.
Calantoc's bail was set at $600,000 for both bank incidents.
