Mountain Lion Spotted Near Residential Area In El Cerrito
EL CERRITO (CBS SF) -- A mountain lion was spotted near a residential area in El Cerrito Monday morning, according to police.
A call about the sighting was received by the El Cerrito Police Department at 10:06 a.m., police said.
Police said the caller reported that the mountain lion was not exhibiting aggression as it ran from Potrero Avenue into the Hillside Natural Area, which is surrounded by residences in El Cerrito.
Responding officers were not able to locate the mountain lion, police said.
Animal control officers as well as the Department of Fish and Wildlife were informed of the sighting.
Police advised residents that one should try to appear large, keep eye contact and make noise while slowly backing away during a mountain lion encounter.
