Mountain Lion Spotted Near Park In San Mateo County
SAN MATEO (CBS SF) -- A mountain lion was seen near Wunderlich County Park in San Mateo County on Friday, sheriff's deputies said.
The mountain lion was seen around 10:30 a.m. on the Bear Gulch Trail around 1.5 to 2 miles in, west of the park entrance, officials said.
Residents were advised to avoid approaching or confronting a mountain lion if they come across one, especially if the animal is feeding or with their offspring.
If confronted by one, do not run away, but instead face the animal, make a noise and try to look bigger or throw rocks and other objects.
Avoid hiking or jogging at dawn, dusk and at night when mountain lions are most active, and keep small children close.
Wunderlich Park, near Woodside, is an open space area that contains what was once the Folger family ranch.
