Mountain Lion Spotted In San Mateo County Neighborhood
LADERA (CBS SF) -- A mountain lion has been spotted in a residential area of southern San Mateo County Sunday afternoon, according to the sheriff's office.
The sighting occurred at 11 a.m. in the Ladera area, at Gabarda Way and Pecora Way, the sheriff's office reports.
Deputies are offering the following advice in the event that a citizen should encounter a mountain lion:
- Do not approach the animal, especially if it is feeding or has offspring. Most mountain lions prefer to avoid confrontation.
- Avoid hiking or jogging at dawn, dusk or at night when the animals are most active.
- Do not run from the animal. Instead, face it, make noise, and try to look larger by waving your arms.
- Pick up small children.
