Mountain Lion Spotted In San Carlos Neighborhood
SAN CARLOS (CBS SF) -- A mountain lion was spotted in a San Carlos neighborhood on Monday night, according to the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services.
The cat was seen by a driver who said it crossed in front of her car in the 3300 block of Melendy Drive, near Regent Court, at about 11 p.m., county officials said.
The neighborhood is close to the San Francisco State Fish and Game Refuge along the Interstate Highway 280 corridor.
The driver called the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office and deputies searched the area, but they did not find the animal, officials said.
Mountain lion sightings are common in San Mateo County, and anyone who encounters one should stay away from the animal and call the sheriff's office. In the event of a confrontation, experts advise facing the animal, trying to appear as large as possible, making noise and throwing objects at the cat.
