Mountain Lion Seen In Residential Neighborhood Outside Redwood City

REDWOOD CITY (CBS SF) -- A mountain lion was spotted Saturday in the Emerald Lake Hills residential area of San Mateo County west of Redwood City, according to the sheriff's department.

The lion was seen at 7:25 p.m. Saturday in the vicinity of 268 Sylvan Way in Emerald Lake Hills, a hillside unincorporated area next to the Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve about a mile east of Interstate Highway 280, deputies said.

Deputies reported no further information about the sighting.

Anyone who sees a mountain lion should not approach it and avoid hiking or jogging in habitat areas when the lions are most active, which is at dawn, dusk and nighttime, according to deputies.

Those who encounter a mountain lion should not run away, but face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms and also throw rocks or other objects to scare it away, according to deputies.
