Mountain Lion Seen Crossing Road In Portola Valley

PORTOLA VALLEY (CBS SF) -- A mountain lion was spotted Monday night in Portola Valley, emergency officials said.

The mountain lion was seen crossing Portola Road and heading toward Portola Green Circle at 9:24 p.m., officials said.

Before Monday night's big cat spotting, wildlife experts and public safety officials arranged a community meeting in Redwood City this week to discuss incidences of mountain lions entering urban and residential areas.

Officials from the state Department of Fish and Game, Bay Area biologists, Redwood City police Capt. Dan Mulholland and San Mateo County Sheriff Capt. Mike Wyss are among those expected to participate.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will include a wildlife presentation and a policy discussion.

The meeting is scheduled to begin Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Sequoia High School's Carrington Performing Arts Center.
