The mountain lion was cornered to the 2000 block of California Street and the game warden from the state Department of Fish and Wildlife was on scene as of 10 p.m. As of about 11:30 p.m., the mountain lion was tranquilized and transported to an undisclosed location.
"It's not a very common thing here in Mountain View. We're a very residential area," said Mountain View police Sgt. Saul Jaeger. "Where we see it most is up in the north Shoreline area of our town, which is a Baylands area. What we believe happened was the animal probably followed the creek, Stevens Creek, into our area."
Residents in the area were advised to stay indoors and call 911 if they saw the mountain lion.
Officers with the Palo Alto and Los Altos police departments and Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety assisted Mountain View police.
Police said the mountain lion was reported to have a radio-type collar around its neck. Officers have reached out to local wildlife researchers to try to learn who tagged the mountain lion.
