Mountain Lion Killed in Berkeley
BERKELEY, Calif. (KCBS) _ Berkeley police shot and killed a mountain lion that wandered onto city streets early Tuesday morning.
Berkeley Police Sergeant Mary Kussmiss said officers were called just after 2 a.m. when a person reported seeing the animal in the parking lot of the now-vacant Elephant Pharmacy building at Shattuck Avenue and Cedar Street.
"When officers, arrived, they spotted this mountain lion dashing east on Cedar Street from Shattuck," she said. "Officers set up what we would call a safety perimeter. They continued to follow the animal and move the perimeter as the animal moved."

Officers, with the help of the Department of Fish and Game, finally tracked the mountain lion to a backyard on Walnut Street, where they shot and killed it around 3:30 a.m.
Berkeley police say they believe the officers took the appropriate action.
