Mountain Fire Burning In Shasta County 50 Percent Contained
REDDING (CBS/AP) -- Authorities have partially surrounded a Northern California wildfire that burned three homes and prompted evacuation orders for thousands of people.
State fire officials say the Mountain Fire was 50% contained Friday night.
It erupted Thursday in rural Shasta County near Redding. More than 1,100 homes and other structures were threatened and evacuations were ordered for nearly 4,000 people as the fire burned grass, brush and some oak trees.
But state fire officials say the 600-acre blaze hasn't grown since Thursday.
Evacuations and road closures have been lifted in some areas and it's not immediately clear how many people remain affected.
The fire is burning not far from last year's Carr Fire, which destroyed more than 1,000 homes in Shasta and Trinity counties and killed eight people, including three firefighters
Three residential structures and four outbuildings have been destroyed, Cal Fire said. Two people have suffered minor injuries.
Numerous evacuation orders and road closures remain in effect. An evacuation center has been set up at the Crosspointe Community Church on 2960 Hartnell Road in Redding.
