Motorcyclist Killed In Head-On Crash Near Devil's Slide
PACIFICA (CBS SF) - A motorcyclist who was killed Monday night in a crash on state Highway 1 near Devil's Slide has been identified by the San Francisco medical examiner's office as 24-year-old Salvatore O'Brien.
O'Brien, a San Francisco resident, was riding a Harley Davidson north on Highway 1 just south of the Tom Lantos Tunnels when he collided with two southbound vehicles about 8:55 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Michael Ferguson said.
O'Brien's motorcycle burst into flames when it crashed head-on into the second vehicle, a 2014 Subaru, Ferguson said.
Arriving paramedics found O'Brien lying in the roadway critically injured, Ferguson said. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 9:45 p.m., according to the CHP.
The Subaru's driver suffered minor injuries but refused medical attention. The driver of the other vehicle involved was not hurt.
Neither driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, according to the CHP.
It has not been determined if O'Brien was driving under the influence, Ferguson said.
