Several drivers stopped their cars near the scene but CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said he did not know if they were witnesses or involved in the accident.
The San Francisco medical examiner's office responded to the scene, Cistaro said.
A Sig-alert was issued at 8:18 p.m. and lanes reopened shortly before 10 p.m., according to the CHP.
The far right lane remained opened while officers conducted an investigation into the accident, Van Eckhardt said.
Motorists are advised to expect heavy traffic on the bridge Monday night due to the earlier lane closures, according to the CHP.
Westbound service on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's 108-Treasure Island bus line experienced delays due to the accident.
