Morning Fire Damages Hayward Apartment Complex
HAYWARD (CBS SF) -- Firefighters battled a one-alarm fire that damaged one unit of a Hayward duplex Saturday morning, fire investigator Gerry Price said.
The fire broke out in the home's entryway at about 9 a.m. and quickly burned through the front door and into the structure's eaves and attic, Price said.
"Initial crews knocked down the entryway fire, but it was burning extremely hot in the attic," he said.
Crews had the fire under control within 20 minutes of arriving at the scene and were able to protect the adjacent unit, which was undamaged by the fire.
The unit where the fire originated sustained smoke damage, in addition to heavy damage in its entryway and attic space, Price said.
No one was injured in the fire, and the unit was unoccupied at the time.
Investigators are still determining what sparked the fire, Price said.
