Morgan Hill Driver Arrested For DUI, Drug Possession

MORGAN HILL (BCN) -- Police arrested a driver and his passenger in Morgan Hill last week after police pulled him over for having expired registration tags and found that he was driving under the influence with drugs in the car, the Morgan Hill Department said.

On Jan. 22, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Morgan Hill police Detectives Mario Ramirez and Scott Purvis noticed a vehicle displaying expired registration stickers, and stopped the car near the intersection of San Pedro Avenue and Hill Road.

While the car was pulled to the side of the roadway, police detectives determined that the Gilroy driver, 44-year-old Jeffery Ange, was under the influence of a controlled substance.

Police then arrested Ange and ordered his female passenger—who did not have any form of identification , but told authorities her name was Madeline Alfaro—to wait outside the car while detectives conducted a search of the vehicle.

Almost 16 grams of what police believe to be methamphetamine, 11 grams of marijuana and 25 grams of a precursor to methamphetamine, called red phosphorus, was found inside the car, police said.

During the investigation, police had a hunch that the woman may have provided a false name.

The detectives attempted to verify the woman's information using a new mobile identification device, which uses a person's thumbprint to search a county database of prior arrest files.

Ramirez and Purvis matched her fingerprint with that of Romana Roman, a 41-year-old Gilroy resident.

The woman insisted that her name was Madeline Alfaro until detectives showed her a photograph accompanying the file they received on the cellular device, police said.

After seeing the picture, she reportedly admitted to providing detectives with a false name.

Police discovered that Roman was on active probation out of Santa Clara County and had a no bail warrant out for her arrest for drug-related charges.

Both were booked into Santa Clara County Jail and are being held on charges including the sales and manufacture of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of a controlled substance, police said.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call Morgan Hill police Detective Mario Ramirez at (408) 779-2101 or the anonymous tip line at (408) 947-7867.
