More San Bruno Homes Slated For Demolition
SAN BRUNO (KCBS) - Three homes damaged in the massive gas explosion fire that were not initially slated for demolition will have to be bulldozed, city officials said Thursday.
Mayor Jim Ruane said he does not expect any of the 58 other damaged homes will have to be torn down.
"The inspections have been pretty thorough up until now, so I wouldn't expect that there could be more," he said.
KCBS' Margie Shafer Reports:
Most in the community have overcome the initial shock of the disaster, but they're still living with the day to day with the aftermath such as dealing with tax issues and having their lots assessed by insurance agents, Ruane said.
"It's all of this stuff coming up now that they have to live with, and I think it's particularly difficult in a holiday season," he said.
Word the three yellow tagged homes were now deemed red tagged came amid revelations that Pacific Gas and Electric may not have been aware of improper welds on the line that ruptured Sept. 9.
More than a year before the blast, a state regulator raised concerns over the training PG&E inspectors received to check for corrosion and other signs of weakness on pipelines.
