Monterey Grower Recalls Fresh Cilantro Over Salmonella Concerns
MONTEREY (BCN) -- A recall for certain fresh cilantro has been issued by its grower due to concerns that the cilantro may be contaminated with salmonella, the Monterey County Health Department said Friday.
To date, no illnesses have been reported for the cilantro grown by Tanimura & Antle, which has been on store shelves since Jan. 14, the health department said.
The cilantro was sold in bunches containing a white twist-tie printed with blue lettering that contains the words "Produce of USA, Cilantro .4889." The blue Tanimura & Antle logo is featured on the twist-tie adjacent to the UPC code 33383 80104, according to the health department.
Consumers who may still have the cilantro in their homes are instructed to discard of the produce immediately.
Healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain anywhere between six and 72 hours after ingesting contaminated items, according to the health department. In rare cases, more severe illnesses may develop.
The health department recommends that anyone who may have consumed the potentially contaminated cilantro and is experiencing these signs should contact their health care provider immediately.
