Missing Teen Leads Deputy On Chase, Crashes In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- A teen girl reported missing out of Stockton led a sheriff's deputy on a short chase that ended in a crash on Interstate 280 in San Jose early Wednesday morning, a sheriff's sergeant said.
A deputy was driving in the area of the Southwest Expressway and De Rose Way around 1:55 a.m. when he noticed a late 1980s Acura. After running the car's license plates, the deputy learned that it had been reported stolen, sheriff's Sgt. Jose Cardoza said.
The deputy activated the patrol car's lights and attempted to stop the Acura, but it sped away.
A short time later, the driver lost control of the car and crashed on southbound Highway 280 near the Bird Avenue exit, Cardoza said.
The deputy detained the driver, who was identified as a 15-year-old girl recently reported missing from Stockton, and her passenger, a 17-year-old boy.
Both were taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries suffered in the crash.
The girl was cited and released to the custody of her parents.
