Missing Marin County Native Found Dead In Mexico
FAIRFAX (AP) - A Marin County native who went missing in Mexico has been found dead, the victim of an apparent homicide.
A friend of 46-year-old Lane Gilbert's family told the San Francisco Chronicle Gilbert's body was found on Friday in a home he owned in a village south of Oaxaca.
The friend, Jenny Jedeikin, says Mexican authorities told Gilbert's mother, Jerie, that they believe Gilbert was killed with a machete.
A suspect has been arrested although police have not identified a motive.
Gilbert, a real estate developer, had been living in Mexico since 1992. He was last seen leaving his home in San Andres Huayapam, a city north of Oaxaca, on Aug. 27.
He was a graduate of Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo. His mother lives in Fairfax.
