Minor League SF Bulls Clinch Hockey Playoff Berth In 1st Season
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – The San Francisco Bulls Professional Hockey Team, a minor league affiliate of the NHL's San Jose Sharks, announced that they have clinched a 2013 Kelly Cup Playoff berth in their inaugural season. The Kelly Cup Playoffs begin the first week of April.
The Bulls clinched a playoff spot on Tuesday night with the Bakersfield Condors' regulation loss to the Las Vegas Wranglers. Of the four expansion teams in the East Coast Hockey League (EHCL) this season, the Bulls will likely be the lone team to make the postseason.
With six games remaining, the Bulls sit in eighth place with a chance to move into seventh. If the playoffs began now, they would face the Alaska Aces in a best-of-seven Western Conference Quarterfinal matchup. Alaska can still be caught by the second-place Ontario Reign, who sit six points back, and the Idaho Steelheads, who sit eight points back. The regular season concludes on March 30.
The Bulls have four games remaining on home ice, including this Friday and Saturday against the Stockton Thunder.
