Minivan Strikes Richmond City Council Candidate
RICHMOND (AP) -- A Richmond City Council candidate standing outside while monitoring a polling place was struck by a vehicle but sustained only minor injuries.
Candidate Eduardo Martinez on Tuesday was knocked to the ground by a blue minivan that he said swiped him as it left the polling station.
Richmond police say they consider the incident an assault with a deadly weapon and were still seeking the van and driver.
Martinez is a member of the Richmond Progressive Alliance slate, but authorities say they are not sure if the attack was politically motivated.
Martinez was examined at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and reported no serious injury.
