Millbrae Art & Wine Festival To Debut New Zip-Line Attraction

MILLBRAE (CBS SF) - The 43rd Annual Millbrae Art & Wine Festival is sure to soar to new heights this Labor Day Weekend with the debut of its Broadway zip-line.

Hanging 30 feet above the ground, this year's new attraction at the festival will allow people to zip along the line spanning 200 feet, according to Tim Beeman with Miramar Events.

Two can zip at a time on the line, created by Mobile Rock and Extreme Adventures and located on Broadway at Taylor Boulevard, Beeman said.

"This is the first time the city has allowed us to close off Taylor, so we thought it would be a cool visual to have people zipping in the air while people are strolling up and down looking at the booths at the festival," Beeman said.

The festival, which has a Mardi Gras theme, will feature numerous events on Saturday and Sunday with something for everyone, according to organizers.

A music lineup will feature nine bands playing a wide range of music from 70s to hip-hop, funk to jazz and everything in between, while a car show will feature vintage touring cars, hot rods, sports cars and low riders, according to Beeman.

More than 250 artists and craft makers will also line their items up and down colorful booths that line several city blocks.

Festivalgoers can have their pick of various types of food, from gyros to corn dogs, crepes, chow mein and kettle corn. There will be microbrew tasting, margaritas and premium wines as well, according to organizers.

A Kids' Stage will feature young performers from the Streets

Filled With Talent Music and Dance Showcase, which will conduct a "Millbrae's Got Talent"-style show, Beeman said.

Kids can also hop, skip and jump through the Playland section of the festival, which will feature jump houses, a 24-foot climbing wall, carnival rides, bungee jumping, and the new zip-line attraction.

Expected to draw crowds, the festival is located on Broadway one block west of El Camino Real between Victoria and Meadow Glen avenues and will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Riders can take BART to the Millbrae station and buses will be on hand to shuttle people to and from the festival.
