Mexico, Chile To Test Newest Version Of Levi's Stadium Sod In Venue's 1st International Soccer Match
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- Mexico and Chile will test each other on the soccer pitch and also test the latest version of the sod at Levi's Stadium in the first international soccer match at the facility on Saturday evening.
Chile is ranked 12th in the world while Mexico is ranked 17th ahead of the matchup in Santa Clara, the second soccer game to be played at the new Santa Clara home of the San Francisco 49ers. The game is sold out, according to a Levi's Stadium tweet.
The San Jose Earthquakes defeated the Seattle Sounders FC 1-0 in the first sporting event held at Levi's Stadium on August 2 in front of 48,765 fans.

The 49ers ripped out the turf at Levi's Stadium for the second time on August 25, after the second 49ers preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. That sod was a temporary fix for the first time the turf was removed on August 21, a day after 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh cut short a practice when players began slipping and creating divots on it.
Chile and Mexico each reached the round of 16 in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil but were defeated in the quarterfinals.
Mexico defeated Chile the last time they countries faced each other in 2011, with El Tricolor beating La Roja by a score of 1-0.
It is Mexico's first appearance in the Bay Area since a 2013 match against Peru at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, which ended in a 0-0 draw.
