Bay Area Mexican Nationals Arrested By ICE In 5-Day Nationwide Sweep
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Three San Jose residents have been taken into federal custody as part of Operation Cross Check, a five-day enforcement action conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The names and genders of the individuals arrested were not disclosed, but all three were Mexican nationals in their 40s with prior convictions, according to ICE.
This iteration of Operation Cross Check resulted in 2,059 arrests nationwide, with 156 here in Northern California. More than 1,000 of them had felony convictions, 58 were known gang members or affiliates and 89 were convicted sex offenders, according to ICE.
This was the sixth iteration of Operation Cross Check. So far ICE officers have arrested a total of 13,214 individuals, 12,440 of whom were convicted criminals, according to ICE.
The individuals who are not being criminally prosecuted will be processed for deportation. Individuals who have outstanding orders of deportation, or who have returned after being previously deported, are subject to "immediate removal," according to ICE.
The remaining individuals not covered in the two categories above are in federal custody waiting for an immigration hearing, or pending travel arrangements for removal, according to ICE.
