Metallica Covers The Clash And Jams With Neil Young At Bridge School Benefit
By Brian Ives
(RADIO.COM) – Metallica performed at Neil Young's 30th annual Bridge School Benefit concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View on Sunday night. The show is an all-acoustic affair benefitting the Bridge School, a non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure that individuals with severe speech and physical impairments achieve full participation in their communities.
Among the songs they covered was the traditional (via Thin Lizzy) "Whiskey in the Jar," Buffalo Springfield's "Mr. Soul" (with Neil Young, who wrote and sang the song) and the Clash's "Clampdown."

The Bridge, which always has a diverse lineup of artists, also featured performances by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, Dave Matthews in his acoustic duo format with Tim Reynolds, Willie Nelson, My Morning Jacket, Norah Jones, Cage the Elephant, and former Neil Young sideman (and longtime E Street Band member) Nils Lofgren, along with Young himself.
This was Metallica's third time playing the event; in past years at the event, they've covered Dire Straits ("Brothers in Arms"), Garbage ("Only Happy When It Rains") and the Blue Oyster Cult ("Veteran of the Psychic Wars").
