Mercury News Among Circulation Leaders; Chronicle Ranked 23rd
(CBS/AP) - Both the San Jose Mercury News and the San Francisco Chronicle were ranked in the top 25 U.S. newspapers by average weekday and Sunday circulation from October 2010 through March.
The figures include sales of branded editions — such as a regional editions. The Mercury News counts both the Contra Costa Times and Oakland Tribune as regional editions.
The following is the complete ranking over the six month period:
1. The Wall Street Journal — 2,117,796 weekday; no Sunday edition.
2. USA Today — 1,829,099 weekday; no Sunday edition.
3. The New York Times — 916,911 weekday; 1,339,462 Sunday.
4. Los Angeles Times — 605,243 weekday; 948,889 Sunday.
5. San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News — 577,665 weekday (includes 370,126 branded editions); 636,999 Sunday (includes 400,129 branded editions).
6. The Washington Post — 550,821 weekday; 852,861 Sunday (includes 101,448 branded editions).
7. Daily News of New York — 530,924 weekday; 584,658 Sunday.
8. New York Post — 522,874 weekday; 355,784 Sunday.
9. Chicago Tribune — 437,205 weekday; 780,601 Sunday.
10. Chicago Sun-Times — 419,407 weekday (includes 168,299 branded editions); 421,453 Sunday (includes 170,545 branded editions).
11. The Dallas Morning News — 404,951 weekday (includes 153,441 branded editions); 375,100 Sunday (includes 12,131 branded editions).
12. Houston Chronicle — 364,724 weekday (includes 40,726 branded editions); 587,984 Sunday (includes 75,842 branded editions).
13. The Philadelphia Inquirer — 343,710 weekday (includes 77,128 branded editions); 488,287 Sunday.
