Medical Emergency Leads to 9 Car Pileup in San Jose
Paramedics responded to a nine car accident in San Jose Thursday night that may have been prompted by a driver's medical emergency.
San Jose Police spokesman Jose Garcia tells KCBS that the accident was reported at about 8:55 p.m. at East Capital Expressway and Ocala Avenue, just north of the Reid Hillview Airport.
"The investigation revealed that a 49-year-old Saratoga man suffered an unknown medical condition, resulting in a nine-car collision," said Garcia.
Though several injuries were reported, all were minor. Five people were hospitalized as a precautionary measure. But Garcia says there were no serious injuries.
Other details of the crash are still under investigation.
Northbound lanes on the Capital Expressway were closed for a time, but re-opened overnight.
